ISLAMABAD, March 13 (Xinhua) -- At least five militants were killed in an armed clash with police in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, local media reported Sunday. Urdu TV channel Dunya said that the criminal investigation department of police raided a compound of suspected militants in Nankana Sahab area of Karachi, capital city of the country's south Sindh province.
The police conducted the operation in the late hours of Saturday night, acting on an intelligence tip-off regarding the presence of Al-Qaeda linked militants in the hideout.The raid triggered a shoot-out between the police and the insurgents in which five militants were killed and a policeman got injured.
Officials said that two among the killed militants belonged to Al-Qaeda and one of them had a head money worth 5 million rupees (50,000 USD) and the other 0.5 million (5,000 USD) by the government.
In another incident on Sunday morning, a check post was destroyed when some unknown militants hurled a hand grenade on it in Moti Mahal area of the city.
Another check post of paramilitary troops was also attacked in the area, but no casualty was reported.
