Dualistic policy hindering river management: Minister Yadav

Lahan, March 30: Minister for Irrigation Umesh Yadav has said the dualistic policy has created problem for the management of the rivers.

Talking to RSS here today, Minister Yadav added that lack of clarity over the ownership of river and jurisdiction on use of river-based resources has created ambiguity in the river management.

Minister Yadav said that clear law regarding the management of rivers was essential.

He further said that the responsibility of river control lies with the Irrigation Ministry, however, the extraction and use of river based resources were controlled by the District Development Committee and VDCs under the Ministry of Local Development.

Therefore, both responsibility of controlling the river and providing the permission to use the resources should be designated to a single authority.

He further informed that different irrigation projects were under construction across the country with high priority. RSS
