Saudi Arabia, March 16: A Nepali woman migrant worker, who had been confined to her employer’s house in Saudi Arabia for the past seven years, has been rescued.
Man Maya Gurung, 30, of Sundarpur in Morang, who landed in Saudi Arabia as a domestic help illegally, was rescued at an initiation of the Consulate General of Nepal in Jeddah. Gurung had gone to the country seven years ago through an agent via Indian routes.
Acting consular general Rewati Raman Poudel said that Gurung was rescued from the house of her employer in Ta’if and sent to Nepal on Tuesday.
He said that health condition of Gurung was deteriorating due to her staying in confinement for long.
Poudel said that Gurung informed that she was denied her salary for the past three years. He, however, said that they helped Gurung get her remaining salary of Saudi Riyals 13,000 from her employer.
According to the consulate general, the office managed travel permit for Gurung to return back to Nepal. Two weeks earlier, Gurung’s brother Purna Bahadur urged the consular general to rescue his sister. RSS
