Kathmandu, March 20: The Metropolitan Traffic Police has developed a special plan to maintain road safety during the Holi festival.

At a press meet here today, Kathmandu Metropolitan Traffic Division Chief Deputy Inspector General of Police Prakash Aryal said the plan comprises surveillance and containment of drunk-driving, over-speeding vehicles, overloaded vehicles and vehicles used for forcibly throwing color  on pedestrians and to maintain traffic discipline during the festival.  The plan will be implemented in all districts in the Kathmandu Valley in cooperation with the civil police.

Traffic check points will be established at 53 locations in the Valley from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm on the day of Holi festival that falls on coming Tuesday.  Anyone found violating the traffic rules, generating uproar in the public and throwing lolas (water-filled balloons)  to pedestrians will be punished, the Division said.
