Thimi folks picket road office

Bhaktapur, March 16: Locals of Madhyapur Thimi have picketed the Bhaktapur Road Division Office on Thursday demanding presumption of local road construction works that have been stalled following the April 25 devastating earthquake.

Locals gheraoed the road office to pile pressure to expedite the construction of 1.8-km Lokanthali-Sanothimi road for which a contract was awarded three years ago.

A group of around 300 local people led by Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ashta Kumar Kabe drew the attention of the road office to take swift actions to complete the construction. Kabe said, "The road has been in a broke stage since three years back. People's movement has been troubled with big holes and wretched condition of the road especially in the dry and rainy season. Therefore, locals came to picket the road division office".

With the assurance of Road Division Office Chief Devendra Sah for completing the stalled road construction, locals of Madhyapur Thimi municipality wards 15, 16 and 17 who staged sit-in before office for one and half hours returned home. RSS
