Wooden sculpture show opens

Kathmandu, April 4: An exhibition of wooden statuettes crafted by Bhuwan Thapa 'Bahubhi' has opened at the Nepal Art Council gallery at Babarmahal from Sunday.

On show are 56 wooden statues carved by Bahubhi for about a year after the April 25 earthquake. The exhibition will run until April 6.

The statuettes kept in the exhibition titled 'Self Realisation' seem to speak of the craftman's experiences during the earthquake. The statuettes are hung around the exhibition hall.

"Many of the statuettes here were made in the tent immediately after the earthquake. I have tried to express my feelings during and after the tremor through the statues," the artist shared.

The artist has also attempted to show the daily feelings of people as hope, desperation, greed and the pent-up emotions.

Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun inaugurated the exhibition organised by Aarabha Door, a group of contemporary sculptors.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice President said art and sculpture play an important role in preserving the country's history. RSS
