Madhes-based political parties will not join new govt: SSF leader Rawat

Kathmandu, July 27: The protesting Sanghiya Sanajwadi Forum (SSF) leader Lal Babu Rawat said that Madhes-based political parties would not join a new government until their demands are addressed.

He, however, clarified that the parties would support the next government only after the largest political party—Nepali Congress—and CPN (Maoist Centre) pledged written commitment in this regard.

Rawat was speaking at a face-to-face at the Reporter's Club in the Capital today.

He said that for the United Democratic Madeshi Front, an alliance of Madhes-based political parties taking to the streets to protest some provisions of the constitution, the government is not important, but Madhes issues, protest and grievances of Madhesi people.

Likewise, NC central member Min Bishwokarma said that demands of the protesting parties like withdrawing cases filed against Madhesi leaders and cadres, ensuring proportional representation, providing compensation to the families of those killed in the Madhes movement some eight months ago and treatment for those injured would be sorted by dividing them into three phases through consultations with Madhes-based political party leaders.

Also, CPN-UML Secretary Pradip Gyawali clarified that his party would not involve in the next government. RSS
