2 Palestinians killed, 1 Israeli wounded in West Bank stabbing attack

JERUSALEM, March 17: (Xinhua) -- Israeli security forces on Thursday shot and killed two Palestinians who stabbed and wounded an Israeli woman in the West Bank, the Israeli army said.

The two Palestinian assailants attacked the 20-year-old woman shortly after she got off a bus at the Ariel Junction, a settlement in central West Bank, south of Nablus, an Israel Defense Forces spokesperson said in a statement.

"Forces at the scene responded to the attack and shot the two assailants, resulting in their deaths," the statement said.

The woman, reported to be a soldier by some Israeli media outlets, suffered a wound to her neck, Israeli emergency services said.

This was the latest in an ongoing wave of violence started in October that has killed 28 Israelis and 175 Palestinians.

Israeli leaders accuses the Palestinian Authority of inciting violence, while the Palestinians say the violence is the result of frustration amid 49 years of Israeli occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, where they wish to establish a Palestinian state.
