2nd World Women's Conference kicks off

Kathmandu, March 13: The Second World Women's Conference has begun here Sunday with an objective of identifying common problems of women across the world and the measures for its eradication.


The conference is taking place under the theme 'World's women are climbing mountain' and representatives from 46 countries are attending it.

Inaugurating the Conference, Speaker Onsari Gharti said policies formulated for women's rights would be limited to paper until women themselves became aware.

Stating that although the new constitution has addressed maximum rights of women, it is not complete, she said, "It is very positive of mentioning the end of gender discrimination in the preamble of the constitution. The new constitution has addressed issues like rights of women on parental property, health, education and citizenship."

Speaker Gharti said that she was confident that the conference would approve the policy and principles to win the world by women.

Representatives of different countries would identify common problems of women in their respective countries and find out measures to eradicate during the conference organised by the World Women's Corporation.

The conference, which will run till March 18, would issue a common declaration for women of the world. RSS
