Constitution implementation and economic prosperity NC's policy

Kathmandu, March 11: Stakeholders have suggested the new leadership after the 13th National Convention of the Nepali Congress to make the implementation of the new constitution and economic prosperity as its future policy.

They said that the party should focus its attention for implementation of new constitution and fresh interpretation of democratic socialism and economic prosperity at a time new constitution has already been promulgated.

Although the campaign forwarded by NC founder leader BP Koirala of people promulgating their constitution by themselves was completed under NC leadership after over six decades, many challenges have been seen in its implementation.

Main achievements of the new constitution like republicanism, federalism, secularism and inclusive democracy are still to be brought into practice.  There is national concern on what policy the NC adopts to face such challenges.

Senior journalist Harihar Birahi said that the party should take a concrete step as the NC's National Convention has given implementation of new constitution, economic prosperity and nation building as its mandate.

He said that it would be easy for the implementation of the new constitution after correcting weaknesses of the new constitution and taking its specialty to the people.

Birahi said, "The new leadership should bring economic programme based on democratic socialism for economic prosperity."

Sher Bahadur Deuba has already been elected as its new president and Dr Shashank Koirala and Sitadevi Yadav have been elected to the post of General Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Result of other posts is receiving.

Senior advocate Harihar Dahal has suggested the new leadership to play a vital role to implement the new constitution. He added that the party has a chance and challenge side by side to lead the nation.

The national economy is waiting for revival as it was badly affected by the April 25 earthquake and border blockade. Similarly, as the largest party, NC has a great responsibility of resolving the province delineation issues, he added.  Dahal further said that the new leadership should lead the nation on the way to prosperity with internal unity among the party leaders.

Likewise, Dhana Khatiwada, member at the party's Central Policy and Training Foundation suggested the new leadership to arrange 33 per cent women participation in the party's organizational structure.  

The party has a major responsibility of implanting new provisions like federalism, proportional representation among others incorporated in the new constitution, Khatiwada added.  RSS
