Government serious towards UDMF demands: PM Oli

Kathmandu, March 11: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today reiterated the government's seriousness towards addressing the demands raised by the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF).

During a meeting with the UDMF leaders at his official residence, PM responded to the seven-point demand and gave assurance of holding discussions with the concerned stakeholders and the ministers for solution.

The leaders of the parties constituting the UDMF including Mahantha Thakur, Rajendra Mahato, Sharat Singh Bhandari and Manish Suman drew the PM's attention towards their demands.

The UDMF leaders pointed out that their cadres who were injured during the agitation were yet to receive treatment cost and that cases against them have not been withdrawn which prompted PM Oli to issue an instruction to his secretariat to make immediate arrangement for treatment, said PM's Press Advisor, Pramod Dahal.

On the occasion, PM Oli urged the Madhesi leaders to seek solution towards the prevalent problems faced by Madhes terming it as the problems of the entire country. He insisted on taking a step forward in order to give justice to the people and resolving the problem.

The Front leaders also accepted PM's conviction that the decision on making a choice on formation of either a Judicial Commission or Political Commission should be taken after a due discussion is held, according to a statement issued by the PM's Private Secretariat.

The UDMF has put forth a range of demands including rewriting the constitution, martyrs' status, treatment of the injured, formation of an impartial probe commission, withdrawal of cases and releasing its cadres, support to quake-stricken and reconstruction, end to black market trading and waiver of tax of the period during the agitation.

Manish Suman - a leader of UMDF constituent, Sadbhawana Party -said the PM was serious towards the seven-point demand and had assured of holding talks with the concerned ministers at 6:30 pm to discuss ways for solution. RSS
