Janakpurdhan, March 19: The journalists working in different media houses in Tarai districts have said that the media sector was still not women-friendly.
At an interaction programme organised by Media Advocacy Group on ‘Mass Media Policy’ on Friday, the participants said that women journalists were unsafe due to unfriendly media policy and discriminatory practices of the media manager.
They have asked the policymakers to ensure the provision of employing women journalists in media house, offer equal salary and provide skills promotion activities in the media policy.
On the occasion, journalist Brij Kumar Yadav said that there was shortfall of skilled women journalists while Shyam Sundar Shashi argued that there was confusion whether the journalism was a service or a profession and this has led to women journalists’ insecurity.
Journalists Manika Jha, Dipika Sah, Asmita Jha, Rinki Das, Shankar Shrestha, Ghanshyan Mishra and Gayatri Mishra and others stressed the need of programmes for increasing self-confidence of women journalists.
Journalists from Dhanusha, Mahottari and Sarlahi districts attended the programme presided over by Group’s Chair Babita Basnet. RSS
