Meeting of the Chairpersons of Programme Committee of SAARC direct agencies for geographical representation 37th SAARC Council of Ministers

Kathmandu, March 15: The meeting of the Chairpersons of the fifty-second session of the Programme Committee of SAARC made various directions to the SAARC agencies including SAARC Development Fund to ensure the geographical representations at the SDF secretariat.

In the ongoing 37th SAARC Council of the Ministers in Pokhara, the Chairpersons' meeting of the Committee on Tuesday directed the South Asian University (SAU) to commence under graduate programs as early as  possible and ensure regional representation in appointments, particularly, in appointment of the Vice-Presidents.

Similarly, the Committee recommended the SAU to ensure geographical representation in faculty members and students as well. The Committee directed the SAU to circulate a list of students and faculty members, containing all the relevant details (including nationality) through the SAARC Secretariat at the beginning of every academic year.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Committee directed the SAARC Development Fund to ensure geographical representation at the SDF Secretariat

The MoU between SAARC Agriculture Centre and ICRISAT (International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics) and SAC and ISC (International Sericulture Commission) has received concurrence from all member states and is now ready for signature.

Moreover, the existing SAARC mechanism of Heads of National TV, and Radio and News Agencies/SAARC Audio Visual Exchange Programme has been renamed as the Working Group on Information and Media.

The SAARC Energy Centre has been approved for the activities as training workshop on simulate power trading market system/power exchange in September and advanced course on SAARC Technical Training on Power System in 2016.

Before making such decisions, the Committee discussed various matters including those related agriculture, veterinary, seed bank, project based cooperation, terrorism, and narcotic drugs, information and media, review of calendar activities and others. RSS
