Bhaktapur, March 15: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Poverty Alleviation, Chitra Bahadur KC, has said the constitutional provision on acquisition of naturalized citizenship was faulty.
At least seven years of marriage with Nepali man should have been the criteria for a foreign woman to get naturalized Nepali citizenship, he stressed.
At a programme organized by Rafat Media Club here Tuesday, DPM KC said the existing provision on citizenship would encourage increase of foreign people in Nepal and it would finally jeopardize Nepali nationality.
The DPM buttressed that such provision would stir up crisis in the country.
He further said it was worrying fact that the constitution was silent about providing voting rights to Nepali citizens living abroad, during the election here. "The constitution must be corrected on it," he underscored.
The DPM pointed out another fault in the constitution made by the recent amendment that has said the constituency would be delimited based on the basis of population. He grew concerned over omitting 'based on geography.'
On a different note, he said the imminent visit of the Prime Minister to China would focus on boosting Nepal's trade relations with China. RSS
