PM vows to prioritise professional security of journalists

Pokhara, March 16: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has pledged to give special priority to the professional security and protection of journalists.

Inaugurating a newly constructed multi-purpose building of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Kaski chapter, PM Oli admired the construction of a new building by the FNJ chapter when journalists are themselves at a difficult time.

Recalling his three-year jail sentence during his political career in Pokhara, PM Oli said he carried emotional attachment with Pokhara as he had many friends here who supported him a lot during his jail life.

The construction of much-talked international airport in the town would start soon, he added.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli and Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai honoured those people who donated over Rs 25,000 to construct the FNJ building. The construction of the FNJ chapter new infrastructure cost around Rs 106 million.  Over 500 organisations and individuals provided monetary assistance for the same.

On the occasion, FNJ President Dr Mahendra Bista said the FNJ is in the phase of infrastructure development.

Reporters' Club Chair Rhishi Dhamala was awarded the 'Tankadevi Koirala Memorial Journalism Award' carrying a purse of Rs 20,000. Journalist Dhamala returned the prize amount adding Rs 25,000 from his own to construct a new building for FNJ Dhading chapter. RSS
