Women need to know information technology

Kathmandu, March 30: Participants at an interaction organized here on Tuesday said that women have been deprived of employment opportunities as well due to their backwardness in the use of information and communication technologies.

It was said at an interaction programme organized by Nepal Telecom to impart ICT knowledge to women on the occasion of the 'International Girls in ICT (International and Communication Techniques) Day 2016'.

Noting the need to increase women participation in government agencies, they stressed that women from all geographic regions should be made able to use ICT for their advancement.

Chairperson of Information and Technology Association Nepal Damodar Poudel said women need to be imparted technological skills and knowledge in order to enhance their self-confidence in personal and professional life.

Employee at Nepal Telecom Sunita Pandey said the Day is being celebrated with focus on the girls who are behind in the use of technology while noting gender equality would not be possible without women's access to information technology established.
IT student Bidhya Shrestha underlined the need to increase girls enrollment in IT colleges by offering them attractive scholarship package. RSS
