Sovereignty and independency are higher than diplomacy: PM Oli

Kathmandu, July 29: Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has stated that no neighbour should try to impose its interest in Nepal.

Speaking in a programme on 'Nepal-India-China trilateral relations in changed context' organized by the Madan Bhandari Foundation today, PM Oli said some neighbours were wanting to have secularism while others were urging for a particular religion in the country.

He added that it was Nepalis' decision and therefore none should suggest for this or that.  He ruled out any kinds of interest of neighbouring countries urging them not to try and impose any of their interest on Nepal.

"It is the people of this country that decide what religion should be there. It is not something that is decided because a particular country wants it. Others imposing their interference in our internal affairs is not acceptable," the PM asserted.

Urging the neighbouring friendly countries to remain in their status of friends, PM Oli said, "It is not right for the neighbour to practise sorcery against its smaller neighbour and trouble it day and night."

He blamed some forcers saying they tried to prevent the issuing of the constitution at first then not to form the government. PM Oli further said the same forces tried to pull the harness riding on the shoulder playing in our sovereignty.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that the diplomacy does not mean not to speak against the encroachment, adding that independency and sovereignty were higher than diplomacy. He said, "We can talk directly with any country in the world. I did the same while signing some bilateral ties with India and China on the behalf of the country."

PM Oli also said the upcoming government could not be wayward due to people's consciousness.

Referring to the change of government, he said that Nepalese politics was witnessing the scenario like the proverbial cuckoo hatching its eggs in a crow's nest.

Saying that Nepal's new government would be under the direct surveillance of conscious people, Prime Minister Oli said, "The next government will also operate within Nepal and not outside of it."

CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said that all political parties and forces should stand together for national unity and independency of Nepal. He also stressed the need for standing in faviour of balanced foreign policy.

Likewise, the Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala said although her party's cadres were not in favour of toppling KP Sharma Oli-led government, some players of power politics toppled the government. She said that the stance taken by the incumbent government on nationality was praiseworthy.

Also, CPN (Maoist Centre) Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha emphasised the need for maintaining balanced relations with both neighbours, India and China.

Similarly, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic) leader Jitendra Dev said that definition of nationality should be similar to all.

The second session of the programme is scheduled to hold discussions on the working papers presented by the foreign relations expert. RSS
